BACHELOR OF DENTAL SCIENCE

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is introduced to students in the third year of their undergraduate clinical training programme, though the exam is held in the final year. When they first enter the department they are trained in pre-clinics and at regular intervals in their clinical posting they take part in discussions on special topics with the staff. They are taught how to maintain sterilization and disinfection of instruments, basic surgical protocol, exodontia and medical emergencies and maintain their record book and conduct themselves professionally with patients and colleagues.

Theory classes, discussion and seminars are conducted on important topics. Clinical end posting tests are conducted at the end of every clinical posting. One-on-one discussions in clinics are conducted if required.

During their internship, they are allowed to manage exodontia independently. They have a compulsory internship posting of a month and a half in this department.

MASTER OF DENTAL SCIENCE

During the course period of three years, students will undergo extensive training in the specialty which includes seminars, journal review meetings, symposia, conferences, case presentation, pre-clinical exercises and clinics during each year as designed by the department, Rajasthan University of health sciences and Dental council of India. The training programme also includes research activity.

The duration of the course is of 3 years and 3 postgraduate students are admitted each year. Each student will be assessed fortnightly by the department and their progress is evaluated. Every student has to present seminars, journal topics and case presentations that are given. Pre university exams are conducted for the benefit of the students. A university examination will be conducted at the end of three years after the candidate fulfils the criteria laid down by the university, which includes the progress of the candidate during the three years and submission of library dissertation and thesis. Examination will be conducted by the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, which comprises written theory exams, practicals and viva voce.

Apart from the above, surgeries are performed daily with different kinds of cases like removal of impacted teeth, implants, trauma, pathology etc.

Moreover, they also have multidisciplinary medical postings, cancer and cleft lip cleft palate postings in hospitals which may or may not be in Udaipur.
