UNDERGRADUATE TRAINING
The under graduate students are trained in theory and practicals. The undergraduate orthodontic training programme begins in third year wherein basics of wire bending are tutored. Theory lecture classes, clinical postings, demonstrations in wire bending and small group discussions related to orthodontic diagnosis through case history taking, fabrication and use of removable appliances, and case selection for fixed orthodontic treatment are imparted in final year. Periodic evaluations of students are carried out so as to enable them to achieve competencies expected of dental graduates. The main goal is to create a conducive learning environment that allows students to maximize their learning strengths in treating patients as well as assist them in acquiring basic competencies in Orthodontics.
POSTGRADUATE TRAINING
The post graduate is provided with a fundamental knowledge of orthodontic problems and treatment options, the department imports the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct an ethical, patient centered, evidence based orthodontic practice.
To this end, we train Post Graduate in high level technical skills, broad scientific foundations, thrust for knowledge and the ability to critically assess and wear appropriate, implement the scientific and social advances that will be encounters during a life time of practice. The post graduates experience in the treatment of patients with all types of dentofacial deformities. A growth mastery of alternative techniques with different variations of straight wire appliances is emphasized along with modern forms of self-ligating, lingual orthodontic (invisible orthodontics), implants and fixed functional appliances and surgical orthodontics.
The post graduates are also trained in orthodontic treatment in the complex rehabilitation cases in co-ordination with specialties such as Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Pedodontics and Surgical Orthognathic cases are treated in conjunction with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Through an extensive series of lectures, seminars and case conferences and comprehensive didactic background in relevant basic sciences and clinical orthodontic is provided to the post graduates. Each post graduate working with the faculty must complete an original research project, Library Dissertation, Term Paper etc. They are encouraged to attend national and international conferences and seminars and to publish papers in various national and international journals.
